Horse Doctor

At the age of 15, Roland Thaler decided that he wanted to work outdoors in a career that engaged him physically and mentally. Today Dr. Thaler, with his wife Bonnie, runs a successful veterinary practice devoted exclusively to horses. Based in Metamora — Michigan’s Horse Country — Dr. Thaler makes daily rounds, often working in sub-freezing conditions, using state of the art equipment such as portable ultra-sound and x-ray.

Jazz People

Local public radio station WRCJ 90.9 FM has taken a poll amongst the leading music reviewers in the Detroit area to honor elite local jazz musicians. I am going to visit each of the selected where they play and photograph them: the results will illustrate a calendar to be used as a premium for the station’s fundraising drive.

the Artist

Everyday Stephen Magsig creates an oil painting of urban Detroit, soon he will have completed his 800th painting. Mr. Magsig lives in Ferndale with his wife, fellow artist Janet Hamrick. He is a successful painter for over 30 years and is represented by galleries in Birmingham, Michigan and New York. Most of his attention is spent on his Postcards from Detroit project, in which he paints daily a 5X7 inch painting and sells it on Ebay with prices between $100- $200
